Donald J. McHugh (aka Papa Don) was called to his Heavenly Home on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Cleveland, OH to Martin and Mary (Ference) McHugh on June 22, 1934 and was a well known resident of Madison, often called the Mayor of his street for 37 years. When he worked at Stanton Ford, everyone knew him as “Smiling Don”. Don was a proud Korean War United States Marine Corp. Veteran. After 50 years in the Automotive Service Industry, Don retired in 1994.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Jim of Texas and Bob of Mayfield Hts., nephew Kevin McHugh of Mayfield Hts., his first wife, Jackie, (the mother of his 5 children), granddaughter, Stacy Mantey (daughter of Robin McHugh). He leaves behind a loving wife and sweetheart, Theresa “Liz” (Kallay) McHugh of 37 years, his 5 loving children, son Donnie of Winter Haven, FL, daughters Kim (Larry) Bodak of Eastlake, Bonnie (Tom) Rojeck of Willowick, Patty McHugh (Cheryl Kurkowski) of Mentor, and son John, (Mimi Lanese) McHugh of Willowick. He also leaves behind his best friend, Ollie Leasure of Eastlake. He will be sorely missed by his dog, Lucky Madison McHugh.He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren,11 great-grandchildren, and many cousins and nieces.
